Spice/Herb of the Month; Cumin

Cumin seed is a spice that is commonly used in Indian, Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisines.  It kindles the digestive fire and helps eliminate toxins from the body.   It has cooling effect which means it is good to add it to spicy food.  the easiest way to use cumin is to add it to the food you cook especially food that has legumes or meat.  It helps with digestion and bloating.
For low appetite, mix 1 tsp. fennel seeds, 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds, and 1 pinch salt.   Dry roast the seeds together in a cast iron skillet until golden brown about 3 to 5 minutes and then add the salt.   Chew 1/2 tsp. of the mixture 15-30 minutes before each meal.
For indigestion, chew the same quantity of the above mix immediately after each meal.
To make a digest ease tea, bring 4 cups of water to boil, toss in 2" fresh ginger cut into pieces, 1 tsp. cumin seeds, 1 tsp. coriander sees, 1 tsp. turmeric and a pinch of fennel.  Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10-30 minutes depending on how strong you want your tea to taste and how much digestive help you need.  Strain and sip after meals.

For toothache, brew a cumin tea by adding 1 ounce of cumin to 4 cups of boiling water and brew for 10 minutes.  Sip slowly and keep the tea in your mouth before swallowing.

Use the tea above for bronchitis.   Drink 2 times per day until symptoms go away.
