Mariam Gilmer is a Northlake neighbor who offered yoga classes at her
home for three years until Oct. 1, 2008.
Since then, Mariam has offered classes at Briarcliff UMC and Clairemont Presbyterian church. Currently, Mariam has a studio at Habersham at Northlake.
After practicing yoga as a student for many years, Mariam obtained
her yoga teaching certificate from YogaFit which is an organization that trains
yoga instructors with Hatha yoga for mainstream. As part of her training, Mariam has learned to offer yoga to seniors, kids, expectant mothers and new moms.
Hatha Yoga is one of the several types of yoga, and is the
most commonly practiced form of yoga in the United States. Hatha yoga focuses on physical aspects of
yoga practice.
The goal is help us create balance and flexibility in our
bodies and complement our activities of our daily lives through mindful
presence at the time of practice. Mariam
hopes that you not only benefit physically from practicing yoga, but also you
find clarity in mind and joyfulness in spirit.
Mariam designs her classes for mixed level so beginners and
advanced yoga students could benefit from these practices. We practice the poses to create strength,
flexibility, endurance and balance while focusing on our breathing. The experience is of non-judgment and
non-competition.
The Classes take place on Tuesdays at 10:30AM, Wednesdays at
6:00PM and on Saturdays at 9:30AM at Briarcliff United Methodist Church. On Sundays at 5PM, we practice at Oak Grove
United Methodist Church.
Mariam offers private sessions, small group sessions, and special occasions such as birthday parties.
